Biographical
26th February 1835 in Stepenitz; † 14th November 1901 in Szczecin. He went to sea early in his life and lateron as the captain of his own brigg. From 1870 to 1874 he visited classes of Professor Eschke at the Berlin school of art and became an artist and marine painter. Amongst his customers were Emperor Wilhelm II., the duke of Mecklenburg, the prince of Schaumburg-Lippe and other members of royal and upper class families.

Special features
The three icebreakers were built on the Stettiner Vulkan shipyard and commissioned in 1888 respectively 1889. Robert Parlow created several variants of this motif, this one he created in cooperation with his son. The painting is in a good condition. It was cleaned, newly varnished as well as newly framed with a handmade silver frame. Signed Robt. Parlow & Sohn. According to his wide maritime interests German emperor Wilhelm II. boarded the ice breaker BERLIN on January 13th, 1891 with his entourage for a trip from Świnoujście to Szczecin. The well done oil painting shows the emperor on the command bridge. On the fore-topmast the imperial standard flies announcing that emperor Wilhelm II, is aboard.
