- Special features
- The painting is in a remarkable, almost "as new" original condition and of high quality. It has been newly framed with a contemporary silver wood frame. Signed and dated "Joh's Holst, 1941". Provenance: from the family of the former owner. The full-rigged ship is depicted in great detail, and Holst did an excellent job with the sea and the sky. The PIRNA was built in 1894 at the shipyard Joh. C. Teckelnborg, Geestemünde, as a full-rigged steel ship for P. H. Schudt, Hamburg. The dimensions were: length 77.8 m, width 12.0 m and draught 7.0 m. The ship was measured at 1,789 GRT. In 1907 the full-rigged ship was purchased by Laeisz and sailed in the Chile trade, almost exclusively to Valparaiso. Sold to the shipping company ‘Lignum’, Hamburg, in 1916, new name LIGNUM. Sold on to La Spezia for scrapping in 1919.
