- Special features
- Ship portrait in an extraordinarily excellent original condition, i.e. it has not been restored and shows no signs of damage. The same applies to the expressive, contemporary gold frame. The early paintings by ANTONIO JACOBSEN are much more expressive than those painted after 1900. The paintings before 1900, especially those of high quality, are highly valued and much sought after. Signed and dated in the lower right: "A. Jacobsen 1888 705. PALISADE AV. WEST HOBOKEN NY". The SORRENTO was put into service in 1881 and had the following dimensions: length: 97.49, width: 10.98 with a draught of 7.50 metres. The measurement was 2,364 GRT. At the beginning of 1882, the SORERENTO was taken over by the Australia-Sloman-Linie and transferred to the Sloman shipping company, Hamburg, at the end of 1888. From this time onwards, she only sailed on the Hamburg - New York - Hamburg route. Since 28 November 1902, the steamer has been considered lost at Cap Finisterre.
